Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics to host public lecture on social ethics in the holy Qur’an

Qatar Faculty Of Islamic Studies Member Continues Efforts To Revive Role Of Islamic Ethics In Contemporary Knowledge And Practice

 

Doha, Qatar, 4 April 2015: The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) in Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is hosting a public lecture entitled ‘Social Ethics in the Holy Qur’an: Surah Al Hujurat as a Model’, on Monday 6 April 2015.

The event, which is part of CILE’s popular monthly lecture series, will take place between 7 - 9pm at the new QFIS building in HBKU at Education City.

Through its affiliation with QFIS in HBKU, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), CILE supports the Foundation’s mission to foster an engaged society appreciative of its Islamic heritage; one that is equipped to address contemporary issues and challenges. CILE aspires to revive the role of Islamic ethics in contemporary knowledge and practice, and contribute to the establishment of an Islamic legislative and ethical framework.

Dr Fethi Ahmed, Research Coordinator at CILE, will present the lecture and explore some noble social ethics in the Holy Qur’an with reference to Surah Al-Hujurat (the Chambers). In his analysis, he will integrate the Holy Qur’an interpretation methods with the methods of Social Sciences, as well as other sources to help explain the topic.

The lecturer will provide an operational definition and overview of ethics, explaining the meaning of social ethics, its scope and importance according to the Holy Qur’an with special emphasis on Surah Al-Hujurat. He will also discuss the important social ethics models provided by Surah Al-Hururat. The lecture will conclude with an emphasis on the need to address applied social ethics, especially by sociologists and ethicists, due to its importance in maintaining community harmony, balance, cohesion, and strength.
