[Update: Photos] Moralizing the International Labour Market: the need for anti-corruption measures in supply and demand

The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of College of Islamic Studies (CIS) in Hamad Bin Khalifa University, cordially invites you to the upcoming public lecture titled:

Moralizing the International Labour Market: the need for anti-corruption measures in supply and demand

It will take place on November 26, 2018 from 7-9pm, Conference room (1) at the College of Islamic Studies building.

Scholars during this lecture will discuss how while a number of GCC countries are attempting to stop the practice of low-skill, low-income migrant workers paying for their recruitment, some economists are advocating that the forces of supply and demand make it inevitable, and that they will continue pay.

Scholars will also argue that normative ethical and rights considerations need to intervene in regulating the labour market to prevent corruption and exploitation of the most vulnerable. Examples will be drawn from in-progress reforms in Qatar.
