Invitation Lecture: Sufism, Gender and Islamic Ethics: Discussing Futuwwa

The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of College of Islamic Studies (CIS) in Hamad Bin Khalifa University, cordially invites you to the upcoming public lecture titled:

Sufism, Gender, and Islamic Ethics: Discussing Futuwwa

It will be held on November 4th, 2019 from 7 to 9 pm in Conference room (1) at the College of Islamic Studies building.

How can contemporary Islamic ethics benefit from the study of classical Sufi texts, especially when it comes to matters of gender and virtue? This panel discussion will address key questions in the contemporary study of Sufi ethics. Its focus will be on futuwwa, a heroic conception of the virtues of the “young man,” but also on conceptions of “virtue” and “virtue ethics” in major Sufi treatises and poetic works.
