CILE Professor Lectures on Islam and Darwin’s Evolution Theory at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar

On Monday, 18 September 2017 (12:00-13:00 PM), Dr. Mohammed Ghaly (Professor of Islam and Biomedical Ethics) in the Research Center for Islamic Legislation & Ethics (CILE), College of Islamic Studies (CIS), Hamad Bin Khalifa University will give a lecture on “Islam and Evolution”. The lecture makes part of the “Biological Sciences Lecture Series” organized by Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.

The lecture will give an overview of the opinions expressed by Muslim religious scholars on the Darwin’s Evolution Theory. Dr. Ghaly has already published on this topic in both English and Dutch. His English publication is “Evolution and Muslim Responses to It”, in the Oxford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Science, and Technology, published in 2014. His Dutch publication is “Islam en Darwin: De receptie van Darwin en de evolutietheorie in de Islamitische traditie [Islam and Darwin: the reception of the evolution theory in the Islamic tradition]”, in Alfred Driessen & Gerard Nienhuis (eds.), Evolutie: Wetenschappelijk model of seculier geloof [Evolution: Scientific model or secular belief], Kok, 2010, pp. 126-144. Dr. Ghaly’s research on this topic was also highlighted by the widely-read Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad
