I agree –it ought to be permissible, once proven safe. In case of maternal spindle transfer it is tissue donation (akin to organ donation) as opposed to pronuclear transfer.(which can be however allowed in polygamous marriage) I think calling these babies as ‘three parent baby’ is misleading as 99.9% of the genetic material is from the parents (and who are married to each other) and only 0.1% is mitochondrial DNA. If this technique – especially (and only) when proven to be safe (for the baby) fulfils the requirement of preserving one of the maqasid ( lineage/ progeny) and avoids harm, then it ought to be allowed/accepted. Apparently the first baby with mt.DNA transplant was born last year (6th April 2016) (New Scientist 2016).
