Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al Thani
Director of Public Health, Ministry of Public Health, Qatar

Dr. Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Thani graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University in 1998 then completed a fellowship through the Arab Board Program in Community Medicine in 2006. 

This was followed by a Fellowship with the Faculty of Public Health in London in 2010 and completion of a Master’s degree in Business Administration in 2014 from HEC Paris - France (Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales de Paris) which is a European Business School

Dr. Al Thani has been the Director of the Public Health Department at the Ministry of Public Health since 2008. He is also an Associate Professor of Clinical Healthcare Policy and Research at Weill Cornell Medical College and Qatar University.

He has developed programs to protect the health of individuals, families and community in Qatar and has placed a high priority on developing the first Public Health Strategy 2017-2022 in Qatar.  

He is continually conducting clinical research studies in the most ethical and safest manner possible to develop an integrated approach to health prevention and promotion. He has over 30 scientific publications in Diabetes, Environmental Health, Road Safety, Communicable Diseases, and Obesity.

Dr. Al Thani has also headed number of national committees including the National Preventive Health Committee, which aims to address the many facets of transitioning from a curative to a preventive health focus and ensuring a robust preventive health governance system is in place. 

He is also the Chair of the Public Health Implementation Committee, and a Member in the National Public Health Committee.
